Despite several changes to the American Express Delta Skymiles ® Reserve American Express card – and its $ 650 annual fee (See rates and fees) – I’m renewing my account for one more year.

When I applied for the Delta Skymiles® Reserve American Express card a few years ago, it came up with unlimited inspection of the Delta Sky Club (when flying with the aircraft) and the low annual fee of $ 550.

Then it seemed like a great deal as I flew with a Delta Medalian elite member and airline and its Skytime partners. Paying directly for the Sky Club membership is expensive – currently $ 695 – so travel to the park through a travel credit card that also provides frequent flyer facilities.

Now, bad. Delta has made some big changes to this card last year that I don’t like.

Cardmember now gets 15 visits at Sky Clubs every year unless they spend $ 75,000 on their cards in a calendar year. The annual feo of the card has risen from $ 550 to $ 650 per year, which makes the American Express almost expensive from the platinum card.

Above all, Delta has changed its loyalty program so that you now only gain the elite status by racking the Medalion Qualification Dollar (MQDS) based on expenditure. Regardless of these unfortunate changes, I decided to keep the card here.

All Delta Reserves have to be offered

Delta Skymiles ® Reserve American Express Card is a good welcome offer, a profitable award program and a high-end Delta card with all the bells and whistles you expect with the benefits of a profitable reward program and a few annual travel credit.

Terms apply to American Express facilities and offers. American Express Benefits and offers may require enrollment. Go to American Express.com to find out more

Delta Skymiles ® Reserve American Express card earnings are the same rate, but I do not use this card for many daily purchases. In addition to the generous welcome bonus, card holders, including reserves, earn 3x miles on Delta purchase and 1X miles for other qualified expenditures.

Card holders also get a range of parks include when flies:

  • Access to Amex Centurion Lounge while flying with Delter and paying with an Amex card
  • Upgrade to priority, an annual associate certificate
  • Fee credit for Global Entry or TSA Prcheque
  • The first check bag is free
  • 20% back to buy flights
  • Region 5 Priority Boarding
  • Some travel insurance facility

Most Delta cardholders (including reserves) get a departure of 15% discount through the Airlines’ Takeof 15 program.

However, Delta and Amex have announced some new benefits with this card that may be effective in early 2021: This includes:

  • The Medalion Eligibility on Credit Card Expenditure encourages dollars (1 MQD for each $ 10 for purchase on cards)
  • MQD headstart with 2,500 MQ
  • $ 240 on annual credit ($ 20 per month)
  • Up to $ 240 on annual credit toward Rideshair Purchase ($ 10 per month)
  • Increased Annual Mate Certificate that includes the Caribbean and Central American destinations now
  • $ 200 Delta contains annual credit
  • Circle of the Hartz President
  • Four one -time Delta Sky Club’s Guest Pass

MQUDS is how you make progress through the level of Delter’s elite membership. Reaching silver it takes $ 5,000 MQ, $ 10,000 for gold, $ 15,000 for platinum and $ 28,000 for Diamond. Each rank extends to the parks provided by the previous layer. MQDS resets each calendar year.

Why I think Delta Reserve is worth it

Although I am not thrilled about paying 50 650 annual fees for the airline credit card, I finally decided that I would get a lot of value in exchange. This is basically because I will use the entries (and need) of the Sky Club that comes with the card.

I also like the 2,500 MQ I also liked by MQD headstart benefits, which I am part of the track on the way to achieve the Delta Medalion Platinum status this year.

In addition, I found out that 200 Delta Stace Credit is easy to use. I have already used me for this calendar year because it is applied to my card before I get a chance to renew. Delta Booking Portal allows you to save at hotels and resorts around the world. I used it to have a single hotel before the cruise, got $ 200 worth towards the annual Fit of the card.

I am also happy about the extended companion certificate. The previous version of this park was applied only to domestic flights. I am not flying too much in the US, but being able to use this certificate for the Caribbean trips is confirmed that I will keep it in good use.

Finally, I do not object that the MQD boost is not as valuable as the previous program. It still helps me to achieve the elite status.

How do I get most from my Delta Reserve Card

I visit Delta Sky Clubs at least 10 times a year and I pay each visits for $ 50 since I usually have a meal and a few drinks. And regular airport foods are both expensive and disappointing, but I have never received regretable food in any Sky Club.

This card brings four guest passes every year, which is worth $ 50 since I can use to bring their kids to the lounge (my husband’s own Delta Sky Club has membership). When you add 14 visits to Delta Sky Clubs I guess I will use it, it works at $ 700 as worth it.

I am planning to earn the maximum earning of this card with the extended annual partner and Delta credit.

I will add my card to my Ridesshire accounts so I can benefit from $ 10 on monthly statement credits. Although I rarely ride with Uber or lift, I haven’t done it yet.

Tips for getting adequate price from a high-end travel card

If you are wondering if you can get enough price from any high-end travel credit card to justify its annual fees, first evaluate its benefits and rewards.

For example, add the values of the parks you can accept and see what they are worth to you, then compare it to the annual Fit and decide if it is understandable.

Most people know that high-end travel credit cards are ready to people who often travel and take advantage of the benefits. If you rarely fly, you can’t get too much worth out of the park like the airport lounge, elite status benefits, priority boarding or free check bag.

However, there is a variable that can also produce the most expensive cards in the short term. Most Premium Travel Credit Cards offer big welcomes that can make the first year of membership that make it valuable.

For example, the Delta Skymiles® Reserve American Express Card Card has a qualified purchase within six months, providing 70,000 bonus miles to new customers after spending 000 6,000. Each price is about 1.2 cents, considering Delta Skymiles, according to BankerThis bonus is worth $ 840 when airline fares are used.

Bottom line

I hope the Delta Skymiles® Reserve American Express card does not have to pay $ 650 for the other year, but in the end I decided that this fit was worth it in the end.

I never enter Sky Clubs more than 10 or 12 times every year, so the new limit will not harm me. Also, new card holders have made it more valuable to me as a customer and as an elite member who is always trying to secure the Delta Medalian status for another year.

It was said, there are many other Delta credit cards, including many annual fees. Confirm comparing the best cards from Delta to find the correct fit or if you want more flexibility, consider premium travel credit cards with transferable rewards.
