Meta using AI to identify adolescent users is expanding its age-to-age tools and then automatically placed them in a more limited teen account settings even when the user enters an adult birthday.
The company said in a blog post On Monday that it is suspiciously included in the suspect’s teenagers and will transfer them to these rigid settings. It acknowledges that the system can make mistakes and users will have the ability to adjust their settings if needed.
“We’re using Age For a while, however, it is a big change to earn it, “said Meta.
This step is part of a broad effort of meta and other social media platforms that argues that technology companies are not working enough to protect adolescents and mental health for better protection of young users and lawmakers.
Instagram Adolescent accountWhich was launched last year, includes built-in protection that can contact limited adolescents, they can see any content and how long they can spend on the platform. Last year, the company has automatically enabled these protection features for all teenage users, requiring parents or guardian approval for anyone under 16 years of age.
The agency says that about 97% of users under 16 years of age are placed on these protection. It has recently expanded the experience of adolescent accounts on Facebook and Messenger.
Meta says that it is important to talk to their adolescents about providing the right age information online, with information about why Instagram will start sending notifications to parents.
“Understanding the age of people online is an art-across challenge,” the company said. “We will continue our efforts to help adolescents set up in adolescents like adolescent accounts, but the most effective way to understand age is to obtain parents approval and verify the age of the App Store.”
Although some agencies have praised this type of age verification method, others like Devorah Heyter, public writers, have called the influence of privacy “scary”.
“In order to determine the age of the AI user, it needs to know more than that, especially for the new user with limited digital footprint,” he said. “Our social applications need to do more to protect all users from aggressive algorithms and harassment than to concentrate on age gats.”
