X’s Grokipedia is online after it briefly crashed out

Grokipedia, the encyclopedia powered by xAI’s assistant Grok, briefly went online on Monday, before it promptly crashed. At the time of this writing, the website appears to be working and has more than 885,000 articles, according to one count. Its homepage.

Kasturi, who was previously Dr protest against Wikipedia describes the project as “a necessary step towards xAI’s goal of understanding the universe”. Musk and his allies have long claimed that Wikipedia is biased. Jimmy Wales is the founder of Wikipedia called Musk’s claim about a crowdsourced encyclopedia is “factually wrong.”

Kasturi said last week That Grokipedia’s launch has been delayed “to do more to free up advertising.” Notably, some articles are almost identical to their entries on Wikipedia, although Grokipedia does not contain in-line links to sources in the same format. Such entries contain a short disclaimer that “Content adapted from Wikipedia, licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License.”

In other cases, social media users have already seen examples where Musk’s worldview is more apparent in the “AI-powered encyclopedia.” Here’s an excerpt from the entry for “university” captured by user bluesky Jeremy Cohen.
