Elon Musk and Sam Altman are still swiping at each other on Musk’s social media platform X.
Although both men were founders of OpenAI, of which Altman is CEO, they later became involved in social media, court filings and Corporate blog post. When the last exchange started Altman posted What he calls “a tale of three jobs,” including screenshots showing that he reserved a Tesla Roadster in 2018, then recently tried to cancel it and request a refund of his $50,000 reservation fee, only to have his email bounced.
“I was really excited for the car!” Altman wrote. “And I understand the delay. But 7.5 years seems like a long time to wait.”
The second-generation Roadster sports car was first announced in November 2017 but has been repeatedly pushed back, with Musk (Tesla’s CEO) recently saying that A new version will be unveiled by the end of this year.
Elon Musk wants you
Musk first responded to Altman’s post through writing“You steal a non-profit,” is a criticism that he Altman and directed at OpenAI Before — seeking to block OpenAI’s efforts to restructure as a for-profit company not just in tweets, but also through lawsuits and takeover bids (a process OpenAI recently completed, with its nonprofit arm still retaining control over the for-profit public benefit corporation).
Musk even launched a rival AI startup, xAI, which is suing OpenAI and Apple for allegedly colluding to stifle competition. (Altman said the allegation was “significant … considering what I’ve heard is that Elon has allegedly manipulated X to benefit himself and his own company and to harm his competitors and people he doesn’t like.”)
Apart from repeating the criticisms of Altman and OpenAI, Kasturi also suggested today That Altman’s screenshots don’t tell the full story: “And you forgot to mention Act 4, where this problem was fixed and you got a refund within 24 hours. But that’s in your nature.”
