Google Cloud says SSI TPU is using “a safe, superintendent to accelerate its research and development efforts towards creating AI.”
Cloud suppliers are chasing a few handful of unicorn AI startups that spend a few million dollars on computing to training the AI Foundation models. SSI’s contract with Google Cloud suggests that the former will spend a large part of his computing budget with Google Cloud; A source tells the known TechCrunch that Google Cloud is the primary computing supplier of SSI.
Former AI researchers at Google Cloud have a history of striking computing deals, many of whom are now running billions of AI startups. (Sutskver once worked on Google.) In October, Google Cloud said that it would be the primary computing supplier of World Labs founded by the former Google Cloud AI chief scientist Faye-Fi Lee.
It is not clear whether SSI has parted with other cloud or computing suppliers. A spokesman for Google Cloud refused to comment. A safe superintendent spokesperson did not immediately respond to any request for the comment.
The SSI came out of Stealth in June 2021, a few months after the Sutskver Openi’s chief scientist departed from his role. The company has $ 1 billion to support the company’s Andresen Harovits, Sikoia Capital, DST Global, SV Angel and others.
