Plastic Recycling Startup Novolup has made an agreement with a large manufacturer to produce its upsald thermoplastic polyurethane on a commercial scale, learning TechCrunch exclusively.
The deal helps to nourish Menlo Park-based Novolup through the so-called “Death Valley” which many climate technical startups must be slogans.
Depending on hardware, startups are especially sensitive for stumbling in the valley, when they prove their primary technology and sell their products and have not earned enough income.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Novolup will provide Hollywood science and technology, including a chemical building block used to create the thermoplastic polyurethane. The novolup plastic bag, like the consumer polyethylene waste, is known as polyolol to this material recycling one of the most difficult materials for recycling.
Thermoplastic polyurethans or TPUs are a type of plastic that is used in everything from shoes to medical device.
“For this product line, we have originally achieved what the commercial relationship will be,” Novolup’s co-founder and CEO Miranda Wang told TechCrunch.
At this point, Novolup Polyol is limited to the power of supply, Wang. Earlier this year in India, the startup launched its demonstration center, which is capable of producing several tonnes of material every year.

Wang says, “The capacity of the demonstration center to produce enough TPU for main pilot projects is sufficient,” is a footwear that will be announced in the coming months, including a for customer. Previously, Novolup provided Swiss shoe makers with its life -consisted components for his cloudprime sneaker’s move.
Wang says the national -like deals with the Hollywood will be the key to the advancement of Novolup. “The biggest obstacle to profitability is the economy of the scale,” he said. “Lots of focus next year will drive a lot to close these customers’ deals so we can finance [commercial-scale] Facility. “
Wang said that when the contract and financing were dropped once, Novolup’s commercial plant was in the early 2021 and expected to move, Wang said. The first version should be able to supply enough polyolol to produce about 16,000 tons of TPU annually.
“When we can run the materials in this type of piece, we hope to be able to be able to be equivalent to the price with the Virgin TPUs,” he said.
