An Indian court has ordered the block of proton mail provided by the encrypted email across the country.

On Tuesday, the Karnataka High Court ordered the Indian government to block a popular email service proton mail known for its extended protection after legal allegations filed by the New Delhi -based M Mosa Design Associates. Local agencies have complained that its staff received porn and obscene emails sent through proton mail.

In Complaint Filed in January, the New Delhi -based company called for the control or block of proton mail in India, as the email service was reported to have refused to share details of the sender of the offending emails that complained despite the police complaint.

Additional Solister General Arrind Kamath, a representative of the Indian government, had earlier told the High Court that the government could have a limited role in dealing with the applicant’s concerns and suggested that the criminal court could seek necessary information from the Swiss authorities as the applicant complained.

This is the latest legal battle facing Proton Mail in India, it is the second verdict in many years to block the email service encrypted from operating in the country.

The Indian government’s IT ministry has notified the Internet suppliers to block the proton mail at the request of law enforcement.
