Indian drone startup Rafi An all-equity series, led by the General Catalist, has collected $ 1 million in B Round, as the start of the startup is to increase its research and development and local production capacity for the growing demand for drones on the battlefield and border surveillance.
Drone is becoming increasingly ubiquitous in global military operations. In recent and ongoing conflicts, countries have turned into drones For quick intrusion And High-influence strikeThe Recent Indo-Pakistan War is a major example including both military forces Scale Despite the advanced fighter jet and missile system. This conflict encouraged New Delhi to triple its drone expenses in the next 12 to 14 months to triple for $ 470 million, Accordingly Drone Federation of India, an association representing more than 550 companies.
While in China Goes from dominant energy In Global Drone Manufacturing, Rafa Mepher’s aim to strengthen India’s indigenous drone capacity.
In 2017, the co-founded Bikash Mishra (Chairman) and Vivek Mishra (CEO) of the siblings, the Noada-based startup currently supplies nine different drones, including a payload of £ 441 to 441, covers the average distance between 12 to 124 miles. These drones include MR 10 Operational Drone Sawrum, MR 20 for Re-Supply to High-Logic Logistics, Marine Platform and X8 compact platform for sea circumstances and Lightweight Man-Carriers for fast surveillance in complex terrain.
There are more than 10 subscribers in the startup, all of them, Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, as well as armed police forces such as Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force and Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
Egypt Brothers assumed Rafa Mofber in 2016 when Vikas was studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Vivek was in the Georgia Institute of Technology. For the initial three to four years, the co-founder focused on understanding the operational requirements of the Defense Force, including other requirements such as environmental and terrain considerations. Then they began to produce multicolpters to meet the needs of Indian troops, gradually extending up to steady-wing and vertical tackoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft.
“In the process, we realized that the need is the new and the region is the niche, so we concentrated on both research and production because we don’t want to be limited by the key [already existed]”Vivek said in an interview.
The startup began with a 2,000 square feet of research facility in 2017, but it has expanded to 100,000 square feet joint research and production facilities. It has now been extended to a 650,000 square feet facility as a result of fresh capital infusion, which also saw its existing investors investing investment investment.
“From the very first day we were against the transfer of technology,” Vivek told TechCrunch.

Rafi MPFibre produces its flight controllers, batteries and all the ingredients and all the ingredients that are needed to create drone structures with minus metal, thermoplastics, carbon fiber composites and even wires. It also develops the owned autopilots and the internal navigation systems. However, the startup imports radar and high-end camera, which plans to produce at home within 18 months.
Vivek told TechCrunch that the startup does not depend on China for any material it uses, thereby avoiding some supply discipline challenges.
“The biggest challenge was to establish and research the facility,” he said. “Since research in India is a bit more expensive than the United States, only because of the infrastructure is well placed there … a challenge to be found in the apparatus is a challenge, and then handling it is a challenge again because it is hard to find people who can manage it again.”
He added that Rafi MPFibri addressed some of these obstacles by focusing on training and development of his staff from his first day.
The startup is also used in its drones to identify the object in surveillance situations, automatically appoint operational UAV Sowar intelligence to adapt to the electronic war between frequency bands and make decentralized decisions using AI.
In recent months, Rafi MPFBRA has parted with the DASLT Cystomes of France for the development of new sensors with Safran, Germany and Safran in France.
Rafa Mfibra also plans to extend India and enter the new market. To this end, it has already participated in the defense air shows including Dubai and Paris.
Vivek told TechCrunch that the startup already has some export licenses and asking for something more, but refused to share precisely.
“There is a very advanced discussion with a few government agencies around the world, and soon, hopefully, this year, we will start supplying there,” he said.
In the last 12 months, Rafi MPFBR has sold more than 300 drones and up to 4x in the last four years, the revenue has increased, without releasing certain numbers. He also said that the startup has been profitable for each of the last four years and is expected to go to the public within the next two to five years.
There are about 600 employees of Rafa Mofber, with which 150 studies are dedicated and for more than 250 production. To today, the startup has secured $ 145 million in the Equity Fund.
