Roblox CEO Dave Baszuki Joined The New York Times’ Hard Fork Podcast to discuss the gaming platform’s new age verification feature — but he seemed frustrated by the number of questions focused on child protection.
The interview began by describing the Baszuki feature, which will require all users to submit a face scan if they want to access Roblox’s messaging features. But when he was asked about a report that claimed the company prioritized growth over security, Baszuki seemed weary of the topic, replying, “Fun. Let’s continue it down the line.”

And while co-host Kevin Rudge agreed that one of the best ways for Roblox to improve children’s safety is to improve its AI models, Baszuki insisted, “Good, so you’re aligned with what we’ve done. High-five.”
“And I want to highlight, I’m here because I love your podcast and I’m here to talk about everything,” he added. “So if our PR people say, ‘Let’s talk about “Roblox CEO” ageism for an hour,’ I’m all for it, but I love your pod. I thought I was here to talk about everything.”
