Studies have shown that many teenagers believe that social media can be harmful to people of their age. The research was conducted for several weeks in the fall of 2021 out of about 5,700 youths between the ages of 1 and 5.
About half of the surveyed teenagers (5%) say that social media has a negative impact on most areas of their age, increased significantly from 12%in 2022. However, less adolescents (5%) say that it has a negative impact on their own mental health.
Adolescent girls were more likely to report than boys that social media damaged their mental health (25% vs 14%), and they probably say that their confidence (20% vs. 10%) and sleep (50% vs 40%) are more likely to affect them.
In this report, spending time on these platforms and highlighting how they are aware of these changes. About 45% of adolescent respondents say they have spent a lot of time on social media compared to 36% in 2022.
At the same time, however, many teenagers say that platforms provide important benefits. The majority (%5%) says social media helps them feel more connected with their friends.
Already parents are more concerned. About 55% of the reports are extremely or very worried about today’s teenagers’ mental health.
The report also mentions the growing tendency for adolescents to become social media for mental health information. Third (34%) more said that they used the platform to find out more about mental health after the therapist is influential and other personal stories and suggestions online.
