Technogym — the fitness brand known for its high-performance treadmills and fitness equipment — is partnering with World AthleticsThe International Governing Body for Athletics, to launch the inaugural World Treadmill Championships, called Run X.
Technogym Announces Run X
Technogym and World Athletics will host the first 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) competition in 2026, they announced Monday. The date of the championship is yet to be announced.

Technogym equipment can be found in 100,000 fitness centers and 500,000 homes worldwide. This gym will have the opportunity to be part of the network of Run X hosting wellness clubs.
The two organizations saw an opportunity to offer an indoor competition to the running sport, which already has plenty of outdoor races that focus exclusively on treadmill running. The competition puts recreational runners on the same surface as professional athletes, so they can compete wherever they are. The only rule is that participating gyms have attached treadmills Technogym’s digital ecosystem For calculation of 5km results. There will be an online leaderboard showing real-time, global rankings.
Technogym Announces Run X
Once the preliminary races are completed, the top runners from around the world will be divided by age group and advance to regional championships to qualify for the world finals. The final will bring together the top 10 male and female runners to compete for the Treadmill World Championship title. The venue for that event has yet to be announced.
The idea of creating an indoor treadmill competition could open up the world to a new sport. Other indoor competitions such as HYROX (which combines running and functional workout stations) have gained popularity, and running is becoming an experience. Gen-Z has grown in popularity for runners. Maybe the future of sports “Technogym Announces Run X” will bring more competition indoors, making it more accessible for new athletes to participate.
