New York City controllers have increased Wemo’s autonomous vehicle examination by the end of the year, the company reported on Wednesday.
Wemo was first allowed in August to allow his Robotaxis test in the city until the end of September. The terms of the extended permit are the same: Wemo can place his eight Jaguar I-Pace Vehicles in Manhattan and a human protection operator behind the wheel in the suburbs Brooklyn. A spokesman for Weemo says the permit relieves the company’s drivers from the New York rules that they always put on one hand cycle.

Nevertheless, Wemor has a long way to go to NWC-a city where the alphabet-owned company has been trying to operate since 2021. Even with this permission, the Wemo cannot afford to carry passengers or manage commercial robotuxi services without getting a separate license from the city taxi and limousine commission. A spokeswoman for Wemo refuses to comment on whether the company is in the discussion to apply for these licenses.
