In May, the president launched a project to build an anti-missile defense system that would intercept missile attacks before they reach their targets. The Golden Dome is reminiscent of Israel system, but the Pentagon has not yet released specific details about the project. Considering the scale of the project, it’s worth noting that SpaceX’s reported $2 billion deal could be one of many linked to the Golden Dome. According to the report, companies such as Anduril Industries and Palantir Technologies may also be involved in the development, which the Trump administration wants to complete before the end of his presidency.
beyond the golden dome, WSJ reported that the Pentagon plans to use SpaceX’s extensive satellite network for military communications and vehicle tracking, among other purposes. Although the number is constantly fluctuating, SpaceX currently has more than 8,000 satellites for its Starlink service.
