Apple alerted Iranians to iPhone spyware attacks, say researchers

Protective researchers say Apple has notified more than a dozen Iranians in recent months that their iPhones were targeted with government spyware.

Hamid Kashfi, a Digital Rights Organization of the Digital Rights Organization in the focus of Iran, and Iran Cybercquirement Researcher Hamid Kashfi, said they spoke to several Iranians who received these notifications last year.

It is unclear what spyware manufacturers are behind these attacks.

Over the past few years, Apple has sent various notifications to people who believe that the NSO group has been targeted with government spyware such as Pegasus or Paragon graphite. This type of malware is also known as “tenant” or “commercial” spyware.

Notifications have assisted researchers who focus on spyware to enroll in several countries like India, El Salvador and Thailand.
