I face first The concepts of Ultraite backpacking in the 5th, now-are now (and many missed) backpackers in an article in the backpacker magazine. It was the title “Low,” Mark Jenkins writes. (I still have a PDF copy of the scan a few years ago) Jenkins wrote about long travel across Europe and Africa. To the end, he and his traveler’s partner thought all the gears they needed they needed, storing their down jacket and some spoon they were wearing.
Although all my gear was not intended to steal like Jenkins at one point in Africa, the idea of carrying less, quickly and lightly hit a jug. Not just with me, but in a lot of other people. Jenkins’ article has been widely credited with the launch of the Ultraite Backpacking Movement.
At that time, a very lightweight gear was not found. Most parts of the early ultra -movement movement were driven by a DIY policy. I made my own alcohol oven from the discarded tuna cans, made the pot koji ReflectiveAnd fascinated windscreen from heavy aluminum foil. As a result, my cook kit weight has dropped 14 ounces.
Today, ultraLalite backpackers are more common than the Traditional Tihabidis, at least judge from whom I meet on the trail. However exactly what Is Ultralite backpacking? And how do you rain all these weights to quit not comfort?
UltraLite backpacking, defined
For everyone on the same page, I will define the “Ultraite” backpacking as a base weight of 10 pounds or less. This means all your gear, what you are wearing is minus, minus customerable (primarily food), weight is about 10 pounds.
If it seems worrying, consider that there are people who travel under Monika’s “Super Ultraite” who shoots for weight of 5 pounds or less than the weight. On the other end, I will call the lightweight that will be 15 pounds or less. I never tried a Super-Oltite trip, but I spent for more than a decade with a base weight of 10 pounds and I never felt that I was doing or suffering in any way. Quite the opposite. This is a revelation, and you will never want to go back.
Now that our terms and conditions have been defined, how does someone weigh 10 pounds or less in the Ultraite base?
Before we go to the gear details, know that your pack is the most important thing you can do for low weight. The biggest gain (of, loss) to most people will be in what you do not bring in than what you do.
When considering what you bring, make sure you need it rather than just asking for it. I prefer to make coffee in a moca container but not enough to log on to the backcontre. I don’t Need This is, so I put it at home and make Turkish coffee on the trail. Go through the trail you brought in and really ask yourself: Does it need me?
