We think Monarch has a steeper learning curve than some other budget trackers, and some aspects of the app are perhaps a bit more complicated than necessary. But it offers a huge amount of customization and granularity, which surpasses our misconceptions.
On the main dashboard, you’ll see your total worth with details of your recent transactions, spending compared to the previous month, your monthly income so far and upcoming bills, your investments and the goals you’ve set. There’s also a link to a month-in-review page, which offers an in-depth overview of what’s happening with your finances that month. You’ll also be able to peek at how your net worth has changed over time.

Monarch can connect to your bank and track Apple Cards, Apple Cash, and savings accounts. It can automatically pull your transaction and balance history and identify your recurring expenses and income. The app can even keep your car valuation up to date. While Monarch may take some work to set up (and you may need to tweak things here and there), it’s a detailed budgeting app that can help you keep better track of your income, expenses, and total worth.
